The 2016 president election is approaching and potential candidates have their campaigns in full swing. But who are the candidates exactly? What do they stand for? Let's find out.
Democratic Candidates
Hillary Clinton: Former United States secretary of state, and wife to former president Bill Clinton. Born in Chicago IL on October 26th, 1947. Hillary is attempting to become the first women president of the United States. She has the backing of most of the Democratic party to obtain the nomination. Though she is currently dealing with the Benghazi Scandal.
Bernie Sanders: Current United States senator for Vermont, born September 8th, 1941 Bernie would become the oldest president ever to hold office in U.S. history. Bernie is a democratic socialist who favors big government and higher taxes. Bernie has the backing of most of the youth in America because of his pushing to make college free, and health care free. In order to make these things free Bernie wants to raise taxes substantially on mostly the top 1%. Bernie usually defines as an independent, but for the presidential election he defines as a democrat.
Martin O'Malley: Former governor of Maryland, born January 18th 1963. Martin is your typical democrat, who favors clean energy and cheap healthcare. Martin also has a soft stance on immigration.
Republican Candidates
Donald J Trump: You probably know a lot about Mr. Trump, he has spoken his thoughts to the public without any regret. Love him or hate him he speaks his opinion and doesn't care what other people say about him. Born June 14th, 1946 Donald is a business magnate, investor, and entertainer. Donald has a net worth of around 4 billion USD more than all the other candidates combined. Donald Trump has strong views on immigration and terrorism, he is very outspoken about the topics. He is not your typical candidate because he has no previous connection to politics.
Dr. Ben Carson: A retired neurosurgeon, born September 18th 1951. Also not your typical candidate, Dr. Carson has no previous connection to politics but that is not stopping him. Dr. Carson holds strong religious views with conservative values.
Carly Fiorina: A former CEO of a technology company born September 6th 1954. Again not your typical candidate, Carly holds no connect to politics before this election. She is also seeking to become the first women president. She holds strong republican views and is known for her powerful way of speaking and constant criticism of president Obama.
Ted Cruz: Current U.S. senator for Texas, born December 22th, 1970. Ted is a conservative at it's purist form, holding strong christian values, with pure republican views. Ted Cruz is known for his audio graphic memory which means that he can remember everything he hears.
Marco Rubio: Current U.S. senator for Florida, born May 28th, 1971. Marco a republican through and through, he holds strong immigration views because his parents were immigrants from Cuba. Marco is seeking to become the first hispanic president.
Rand Paul: Current U.S. senator for Kentucky, born January 7th, 1963. Ron is a libertarian meaning that he wants more power within the states and less in the government. Ron is known for pushing the idea of the United States as a republic.
Jeb Bush: Former governor of Florida, born February 11th, 1953. Brother to former president George Bush Jr. and son to former president George Bush Sr. Jeb is known for his soft republican views. George has really strong views on Foreign policy and immigration.
Mike Huckabee: Former governor of Arkansas and pastor of a church, born August 24th, 1955. Mike is known for his strong views on christianity and guns.
John Kasich: Current governor of Ohio, born May 13th 1963. Kasich is known for his pride of Ohio, Kasich holds strong republican views. Kasich also focuses a lot on the economy of Ohio and how he helped it succeed.
Other Republican Candidates: Chris Christie, Lindsey Graham, and Rick Santorum.
